Tomato Dosa

Tomato Dosa – If you are bored of the traditional Dosa, you shall definitely give it a try to this tangy twist to the normal dosa. This dosa is vegan and gluten free. This scrumptious Tomato Dosa needs no fermentation of batter. The tanginess of the tomato itself is enough for the batter and red chillies gives a subtle spiciness. It is an instant dosa but there is soaking process of 2 -3 hours involved. You can enjoy this dosa with any of your favorite chutney or podi.

Step by step photo instructions

  1. Rinse and soak 1.5 cups of rice and 2 tbsp toor dal for at least 2-3 hrs.

2. Grind soaked rice with dal, 2.5 medium tomatoes, 4 red chillies, 1 tsp salt, 2 tbsp fresh coconut,1 tbsp jaggery and 2 tbsp cilantro into a smooth batter. No fermentation needed. You can make dosa right away.

3. Lightly oil the griddle evenly (wipe with a tissue). Heat the griddle on high flame till hot, check it by sprinkling few drops of water, now reduce heat, pour a ladle full of dosa batter, spread the batter with the bottom of the ladle evenly making circles to form a dosa and drizzle with some oil. 4. Cook on medium heat for 1 min and flip to the other side and cook for 20-30 seconds or till done.

Ingredients

  • rice – 1.5 cups
  • toor dal – 2 tbsp
  • tomatoes – 2 and half, medium
  • red chillies – 4

  • salt – 1 tsp

Tips

  1. You can adjust the red chillies to your taste.
  2. You may add soaked poha while grinding to get softer dosas.
  3. Do not add more tomatoes as dosa may stick to the pan.
