Sooji Cake|Rava Cake|Semolina cake |Cream of Wheat Cake – Call it any name.. This is a delicious , soft and moist teatime cake with step by step instructions. Preparing this cake at home is very easy, doesn’t require any equipment or expertise, which makes it a perfect beginner’s cake. This is an egg less and no maida/all purpose flour, no white sugar, no baking powder or soda and no need to whisk anything in this cake. My kids call this as upma cake just because I am using sooji 🙂 Don’t worry this doesn’t taste like upma.
There are several variations and flavours to this simple semolina cake recipe with many flavourings. But I did not use any flavorings. This is a basic and simple cake. If you are a beginner in baking, you should start off with this easy cake. This is the simplest cake ever!!
Sooji Cake is a basic egg less cake using rava, milk, yogurt/curd. For fat content we use ghee or butter or oil. And adding banana and walnuts make this cake healthy too. You may also add chocolate chips.

How to make Sooji Cake
PREP TIME: 5 MINS COOK TIME: 40 MINS TOTAL TIME: 45 MINS COURSE: DESSERTS/SWEETS CUISINE: INDIAN
Ingredients
sooji/cream of wheat/rava- 1 cup | banana – 1 |
yogurt – 1/2 cup | walnuts – few |
milk – 1/2 cup | cinnamon powder – 1/2 tsp |
brown sugar or jaggery – 1/3 cup | eno/fruit salt – 1 tsp |
oil or ghee – 1/4 cup |
Instructions
- Pre-heat the oven to 356 F.
- Add sooji/rava/cream of wheat, yogurt, milk, brown sugar/jaggery, cinnamon, banana and ghee to a blender, blend it to a smooth batter. Do not add any water.
- Rest the batter for 30 mins.
- Add fruit salt or eno and mix well.
- Pour the batter into a cake pan/tin.
- Sprinkle a few walnuts.
- Place the pan in the oven and bake it for 40 mins.
- Further, cool down the cake completely.
- Finally, cut the cake and serve sooji/rava cake along with tea in your evening snacks.
Tips
- You can also cook this cake in pressure cooker. Pour some salt or sand in the cooker and place a stand over it, place the cake tin and cook it for 1 hr with out whistle and gasket.

7. Further, cool down the cake completely.
