4 Mojito Mocktails

Need a quick and delicious drink for this summer? You’re looking at it(them😀). They are not just fruit juice. They are fancy enough to feel special but simple enough that anyone can make it. These are fun and sophisticated fruit concoctions that the whole family could enjoy. Here are a few ideas to cool yourself from summer heat. These Mojitos are super refreshing and delicious! Made with fresh fruit and mint, lime, honey and a splash of fizzy club soda, these mocktails are made for patio nights, cookouts or lazy summer days by the pool or in your backyard.

To release all the flavor of the mint it’s important not to skip the step of muddling your mint in the glass. You can use a wooden muddler to help gently bruise the mint to release it’s flavor.

So here’s how you do it: In the bottom of a tall glass, muddle (smush) fresh mint leaves along with some fresh lime slices or lime juice, pinch of salt and honey or sugar. Once that’s mixed together, fill the glass most of the way with ice. Pour in the fruit(depends on which mocktail you are making) juice and fill the glass with club soda. Garnish with a sprig of mint and/or a wedge of fruit or lime wedge if you like, then just sip sip sip. Before you know it, you’ll be asking for a second round.

What are Mocktails?

Mocktails are cocktail-style beverage made without alcoholic ingredients. Instead juice, soda, sparkling water or infused water is used.

Do I Have to Use Honey?

No you can just as easily use the same amount of granulated sugar or sugar syrup. I just prefer honey over sugar and it’s also a healthy choice.

How Do You Make a Mojito Without a Muddler?

If you have a wooden spoon, just use the end of it to muddle (crush or smush around) everything. or you can use a small sized buttermilk churner like we use in India. Works just as well as a muddler.

Tips/Recipe Notes

  • Use cold ingredients. Nobody likes a lukewarm cocktail. so if you have the time, chill all the prepped ingredients in the refrigerator until you’re ready to make them.
  • If you don’t have fresh fruit, frozen fruit will work fine.
  • Do not over muddle the mint or you will turn the taste bitter.
  • If you want to make Mojitos for a crowd: Multiply the recipe by however many servings you want to make, then add the necessary amount of mint, lime slices or lime juice and honey or sugar to a large, tall glass. Muddle the mixture in the glass, then transfer it to a pitcher with ice. Add the fruit puree* and about 1/2 cup club soda per serving. Stir everything together and serve.
  • If you want your mojito to get colder quickly, Use crushed ice which will make the mojito colder quicker.

*So now you might be thinking like, “okay.. wait what is fruit puree?” It’s literally just fruit cubes blended in a blender, then strained so the solids are taken out — leaving a smooth, refreshing juice. It’s not necessary to stain though for mango. You can use the puree directly without go through all the straining to make it easier in work. But it is advisable to strain for watermelon and pineapple.

Serve these fancy Mojitos when you invite your friends next time. They will love them!!

How to make Mojito Mocktails

PREP TIME: 5 MINS  COOK TIME: 0 MINS  TOTAL TIME: 5 MINS  COURSE: BEVERAGES/DRINKS SERVINGS : 2

Ingredients

  • fruit (watermelon or mango or strawberry or orange)
  • lime slices or lime juice
  • honey or sugar or sugar syrup
  • salt
  • club soda or 7 Up or sparkling water

Instructions

Watermelon Mojito

  • Blend 1 cup of watermelon cubes in a blender. Strain to remove pulp (optional). Straining helps to get clear mojito.
  • In the bottom of a tall glass, use a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to muddle 2-3 mint leaves, 2 thin lime slices, pinch of salt and 1 tbsp. honey. Adjust honey to the sweetness of the fruit.
  • Add 3-4 ice cubes.
  • Add watermelon puree.
  • Top with club soda to fill glass; stir well. Add one more lemon or lime slice and a mint leaf if desired.
  • Garnish with a sprig of mint or small wedge of watermelon or lemon, if desired.

Mango Mojito

  • Blend mango pieces with little water and blend to make mango puree.
  • Combine the 2 thin lime slices or lime juice, 2-3 mint leaves, pinch of salt, and 1 tbsp honey in a glass and muddle well.
  • Add 3-4 ice cubes, mango puree, additional lime slice(optional), and club soda. Stir well.
  • Garnish with mint and lime or mango.

Strawberry Mojito

  • Combine the strawberries, lime slices, mint, salt, and honey to a glass and muddle well (or use a blender to puree).
  • Optionally, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer.
  • Alternatively, simply add large ice cubes to the glass and top up with soda water. Stir Well.
  • Optionally garnish with additional mint leaf and lemon/lime slices or even cucumber or strawberry.

Orange Mojito

  • Squeeze the juice out of oranges and keep it aside. Keep few orange pieces ready.
  • Combine the lime slices, mint, salt, and honey in a tall glass and muddle well.
  • Add a few orange pieces and gently muddle again.
  • Now add ice cubes, squeezed orange juice, club soda and additional lime slice(optional). Stir well.
  • Garnish with mint and lime or an orange wedge.

How To Store:

  • Leftovers will store in the refrigerator for 2-3 days when covered (if un-strained – or alternatively 4-5 days if strained) and remove lime or lemon slices before refrigerate, else the mojito turns very sour and bittery. Just give it a quick stir before using and away you go.

Tips

  • If you decide to make a large pitcher, then serve the ice in the individual glasses and not the pitcher, so you don’t dilute the jugful.
  • You don’t have to strain the watermelon puree, but it does help to avoid any sediment at the bottom of your drink.
  • If storing the leftovers, be sure to remove the lemon slices before refrigerate.
  • Strain before refrigerate, so that it can be stored 4-5 days.
  • You can also try the same recipe with other fruits like pineapple, kiwi..
