Chana | Chick pea Salad

Chana Salad is a delicious and colorful meal packed with protein and fiber. This is a good option for vegans and for the people who are on only plant based diets. Healthy and simple salad recipe made with boiled chickpeas, capsicum, onion and carrot. This is very easy to make and this appetizer recipe is perfect as a starter for any meal. This comforting side dish that is infused with aromatic spices.

Kabuli Chana is soaked and pressure cooked till soft then tossed with chopped onions, capsicum, ginger powder and green chilies, fresh coriander leaves and cashew paste. The salad is then flavored with black pepper powder, onion powder, green onions and fresh lemon juice.

Chana | Chick pea Salad

Ingredients

  • Chana/chick pea – 3 cups, boil soft with adding little salt
  • Onion – 1 finely chopped, or can grind in food processor
  • Green onions for garnishing
  • Capsicum (any color) – finely chopped
  • Carrot – 1/2 cup grated or very finely chopped
  • Salt
  • Green chillies – 7 (adjust according to your spice level)
  • Cashew nuts – 1/3 cup, soaked
  • Cilantro
  • Garlic powder – 1/8 tsp (optional)
  • Ginger powder – 1/8 tsp
  • Black pepper powder – 1/8 tsp
  • Olive oil – 1 to 2 tsp
  • Lemon juice – as needed

Instructions

  1. First soak and boil chana/chick pea with a little salt till they are soft. Chop onions, capsicum and grate the carrot. Keep all the ingredients ready.
  2. Grind 1/3 cup cashews, 7 green chillies, 1/8 tsp ginger powder, cilantro and salt. Make a smooth paste by adding water.
  3. Take 3 cups boiled chana/chick pea in a mixing bowl, add salt, 1 finely chopped onion, 1 finely chopped capsicum, black pepper powder, garlic powder, 1/2 cup grated or finely chopped carrot, olive oil and few green onion pieces. Add ground green chilli and cashew paste little by little. Toss all the ingredients very well.
  4. Garnish with cilantro, green onion and lemon juice and serve.

Tips

  1. You can add tomatoes, colored bell peppers, nuts, seeds, pomegranate seeds, cucumber, etc.,
  2. Adjust the spices and salt as per your taste.
  3. Since we added green chilli paste, we don’t need any other spices for spiciness.
