Paneer Tikka

Make restaurant style Paneer Tikka at home with this easy step by step recipe with pics!! This is one of the popular and universally loved starter. Paneer tikka is marinated in yogurt and spices, until the flavors are infused well together and then arranged paneer cubes along with onion and peppers in a skewer and grill/roasted in tandoor/oven/air fryer/on tawa.

Traditionally paneer tikka is grilled in a tandoor but you can get the same amazing taste by broiling in the oven too!

How to make Paneer Tikka

Ingredients

For Marination:

  • Curd/yogurt – 1 cup
  • corn starch – 2 tsp
  • lemon juice – 1 tsp
  • coriander/dhaniya powder – 1 tsp
  • cumin/jeera powder – 1 tsp
  • chat masala – 1 tsp
  • garam masala – 1 tsp
  • red chili powder – 1 tsp
  • ginger garlic paste – 1 tsp
  • kasuri methi – 1 tbsp
  • turmeric – 1 tsp
  • salt – to taste
  • paneer cubes – 15
  • carrot – 1/2 big size, cut into lengthwise
  • mushrooms – 4, big (optional)
  • red bell peppers – 1/2, big, cut into cubes
  • green bell pepper – 1/2, big, cut into cubes
  • onion – 1/2, big, cut into cubes

Instructions

  1. Cut all the veggies and paneer into cubes.
  2. Stir together – yogurt, salt, chilly powder, garam masala, chat masala, ginger garlic paste, turmeric, coriander and cumin powder corn starch, lemon juice and kasuri methi (dried methi leaves) in a mixing bowl.
  3. Check the taste and adjust salt and chilly powder if needed.
  4. Add cubed veggies and paneer, gently coat them with the marinade.
  5. Cover and rest this in the fridge for 1-2 hrs.
  6. Oven: Preheat the oven to 350 F. Arrange the paneer and veggies on a skewer alternating with each other.
    • Arrange them in a tray if using oven, and spray oil to avoid veggies to dry out.
    • Turn them 2-3 times to bake evenly on all sides.
  7. Air Fryer: If using air fryer, arrange veggies on a small skewers and preheat air fryer to 200 F, place the skewers in air fryer spray oil, bake 10 mins. Turn them in between to roast them evenly on all sides.
  8. Tawa/Pan: A grill pan works best but if you don’t have that a simple pan or tawa will also work. Line all the paneer pieces with onion and peppers in a skewer and then place on the pan.
    • Remember to spray the pan with a oil spray first.
    • Cook from both sides until it’s golden brown in color. It would still taste good!
  9. Always remember to serve the tikka with a sprinkle of chaat masala and side of cilantro or green chutney, onion and lemon wedges.
