Garlic Pepper Rice

Garlic Rice is a simple and easy recipe you can make with left over rice. This is the first thing that me and my daughter can think of when we have left over rice at our house. This is my mother’s recipe. Enjoying this quick, yummy rice since childhood because of our love towards garlic. I improvised the actual garlic rice recipe by adding black pepper powder. This is like combining 2 simple recipes, garlic rice and pepper rice into 1 Garlic Pepper Rice.

The great flavor comes to this rice by adding uppu mirapakaya/majjiga mirapakaya/challa mirapakaya/curd chillies. This is the the second main ingredient in this recipe, of course after garlic.

How to make Garlic Pepper Rice

Ingredients

  • rice – 2 cups
  • garlic pods – 15
  • uppu mirapakaya/curd chillies – 12
  • salt
  • black pepper powder – 1/4 tsp
  • oil – 2 tbsp
  • urad dal – 1/2 tsp
  • mustard seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • cumin seeds – 1/4 tsp
  • curry leaves

Instructions

  1. Heat a pan with 2 tbsp oil, add 1/2 tsp urad dal, 1/4 tsp mustard seeds, 1/4 tsp cumin seeds, curry leaves. When the urad dal turns red, and mustard seeds sputter.
  2. Add uppu mirapakayalu/curd chilli. Fry them for 1 min. Now add garlic. Saute them until garlic turns light golden brown in color.
  3. Add 1/4 tsp black pepper powder, salt. Mix. Add 2 cups cooked rice or left over rice, mix well, check the taste and adjust salt. Cover and cook the rice until nicely and evenly heated.
  4. Serve hot. Make sure you have a piece of uppu mirapakai with every bite. Subtle spiciness comes with this chilli.

Tips

  1. You can adjust garlic’s and chillies quantity as per your taste.
  2. Add more pepper if you like strong.
